Neighborhood Nature Bundle: 10 Activity Guides
Neighborhood Nature Bundle: 10 Activity Guides
In this program, we'll explore the species diversity and fascinating ecology of our own backyards – and front yards, sidewalks, and anywhere else we can go – learning about the creatures who live there, the systems that govern them, and practical ways to help improve habitat.
We will be bringing on different contributors and specialists for each guide, so the format will vary some between units but all will include a variety of STEAM activities and are adaptable to a wide age range.
This bundle includes the following guides:
Moth Mania
Marvelous Monarchs
The Honey Bunch
Water Water Everywhere
The Magic of Mushrooms
Seedy Characters
Birds of a Feather
Things that Go Bump in the Night
Break It Down
Winter Wonderland
This bundle of Neighborhood Nature contains:

Water Water Everywhere
Beat the summer heat and soak up all sorts of fun facts as we dive into the water cycle, and the crucial role water plays in habitat quality.
The Honey Bunch
Dance and break codes with our favorite bee-yutiful hymenopterans, as we learn all about their buzzy, er, busy lives and important roles making honey and pollinating flowers.
September
Marvelous Monarchs
Let’s embark on an epic journey of learning with the Monarch Butterfly. On our travels we will discover fascinating facts about migration, milkweed, mimicry, aposematism, and so much more.
The Magic of Mushrooms
From mysterious mycelia networks passing messages among trees, to gorgeous fairy rings, to delicious edibles on our burgers, this unit puts the fun in fungus.
October
Seedy Characters
Sneaky scheming plants are master strategists when it comes to launching their DNA into the next generation. We will explore how they do it, and how animals and people often participate whether they know it or not!
Things that go Bump in the Night
There are no goblins or ghosties here, but plenty of other creatures haunt our neighborhoods at night. Learn about nocturnal animals and the adaptations they use to thrive when the lights go out. Includes special bonus activities for a wild and wonderful spooktacular Halloween!
November
Birds of a Feather
Let’s flock together virtually as we learn about our fine feathered friends and engage in some important citizen science with Project FeederWatch.
Break it Down
Get down and dirty with the mysterious detritivore gang, a group of spineless (no really, they’re invertebrates) low lifes hanging out in the bottom rung of society, as we dig into decomposition and learn all about it’s vital role.
December
Winter Wonderland
It's beginning to feel a lot like... well, probably fall still. But that doesn't mean we can't get excited about the changes taking place in our neighborhoods as we learn about ice and discover how different plants and animals adapt to the cold.
