Homeschool STEAM
Our homeschool classes focus on the diversity and beauty of our Central and Eastern Kentucky landscape. Join us this semester as we explore and learn all about ecology! Join us as we learn all about the unique habitats, systems, plants, and animals and how everything is connected.
A TYPICAL DAY
Each session, students will share a reading or story relevant to the theme and often related to Indigenous cultures, collect weather data at our campus for seasonal comparisons and observations over time, they will engage in hands-on learning for the topic of the day related to nature-based theme for the semester, they will get child-led exploration time, express themselves and their observations with art during nature journaling time, and end the session with reflection of what is happening in nature that week by composing a microseason inspired by the Japanese culture. Students will arrive at 10 am and stay within age-appropriate pods until 1 pm. During this time, parents are welcome to wander around the site for their own time in nature or build community but must remain on-site in case of an emergency.
From 1-3 pm, students are encouraged to engage in free play with mixed-aged children promoting a suite of executive function skills like communication, teamwork, problem solving, game creation, compassion, child-led exploration, and more. During this time, parents are responsible for their children’s location and safety.
Classes are available for children from age 5 through high school. Siblings younger than 5 years old are encouraged to enjoy the site with a parent during class time. Note: this is not a drop-off program and parents must stay on site.
To participate in our homeschool program, families must be members. Check out our membership options here: Join Us.
Our homeschool member families also have access to a private Facebook group where we post announcements and discuss each day’s learning objectives and activities.
Our other homeschool enrichment opportunities include Homeschool Humanities, Forest Friends and all of our Adventures. Neighborhood Nature is a stimulating do-at-home STEAM curriculum perfect for homeschoolers.
Students should pack a lunch for class. Families are encouraged to stay on site and enjoy time together until 3 p.m.
