About this program
Our STEAM classes focus on the diversity and beauty of our Central and Eastern Kentucky landscape. Join us next semester as we explore and learn all about geology!
Each session, students will share a reading or story relevant to the theme, collect weather data, engage in hands-on learning for the topic of the day, they will get child-led exploration time, express themselves and their observations with art during nature journaling time, and end the session with reflection of what is happening in nature that week by composing a microseason inspired by the Japanese culture.
Students will arrive at 10 am and stay within age-appropriate pods until 1 pm. During this time, parents are welcome to wander around the site for their own time in nature or build community but must remain on-site in case of an emergency. From 1-3 pm, students are encouraged to engage in free play with mixed-aged children promoting a suite of executive function skills like communication, teamwork, problem solving, game creation, compassion, child-led exploration, and more. During this time, parents are responsible for their children’s location and safety.
Classes are available for children from age 5 through high school. Siblings younger than 5 years old are encouraged to enjoy the site with a parent during class time. Note: this is not a drop-off program and parents must stay on site.
We welcome all learners to this program and we have had support for excused absences for public schooled kids. Primarily we have homeschool families but we love having all kinds of learners in our programs! Our STEAM families also have access to a private Facebook group where we post announcements and discuss each day’s learning objectives and activities. We also provide this recap in email form.
Our other homeschool enrichment opportunities include Humanities, Forest Friends and all of our Adventures.
Students should pack a lunch for class. Families are encouraged to stay on site and enjoy time together until 3 p.m.
